John T. Royall is President and Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Energy Information, returning to the position in June 2024 after one year as Executive Chairman. He has served as President CEO and Executive Chairman at Gulf since 2009. Mr. Royall has extensive experience in global energy markets, working extensively with International and National Oil Companies in the US, Europe, and the Middle East.
Gulf Energy Information (Gulf) is a 100-year-old company based in Houston, Texas, and London, England.
In 2016, Royall and a group of Houston investors purchased Gulf from Euromoney and Petroleum Economist based in London. In May of 2017, Gulf acquired Oildom Publishing of Texas, publishers of Pipeline & Gas Journal. Today, the company is the largest independent publisher in the global energy industry, with World Oil, Hydrocarbon Processing, Pipeline & Gas Journal, Petroleum Economist, Hydrogen Economist, Carbon Economist, H2Tech and Gas Processing. The company also produces conferences and market intelligence.
By consolidating existing data sets from upstream, midstream, and downstream oil and gas, Royall led the development of Global Energy Infrastructure (www.globalenergyinfrastructure.com), a leading database of energy assets and projects worldwide. Global Energy Infrastructure has recently added hydrogen assets and projects and carbon capture assets and projects to the market intelligence database.
Throughout his career, Royall has traveled extensively in the Americas, Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia, working with the world’s operators on projects, including publishing projects, technical conferences, and data.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, he also did graduate work at George Washington University and the University of Munich. He completed the Executive Management – Media Course at Churchill College, Cambridge.
